Probing the structure of a massive filament: ArTéMiS 350 and 450 ?m mapping of the integral-shaped filament in Orion A

(abridged) Within the Orion A molecular cloud, integral-shaped filament (ISF) is a prominent, degree-long structure of dense gas and dust, with clear signs recent on-going high-mass star formation. We used ArTeMiS bolometer camera at APEX to map 0.6x0.2 deg^2 region covering OMC-1, OMC-2, OMC-3 350 450 micron. combined these data Herschel-SPIRE maps recover extended emission. The Herschel-ArTeMiS provide details on distribution dense, cold material, high spatial dynamic range, from our 8'' resolution (0.016 pc) up size ~10-15 deg. By combining Herschel 160, 250, micron, we constructed high-resolution temperature H2 column density maps. extracted radial profiles in several, representative portions ISF, that fitted Gaussian Plummer models derive their intrinsic widths. also compared material traced by seen higher tracer N2H+(1-0) recently observed ALMA interferometer. All show deviation Gaussian, evidence for an inner plateau, previously not using Herschel-only data. measure half-power widths range 0.06 0.11 pc. This significantly larger than measured fibers N2H+, which probably traces only innermost regions large-scale filament. These are within factor two value 0.1 pc found large sample nearby filaments various low-mass star-forming regions, tends indicate physical conditions governing fragmentation prestellar cores transcritical or supercritical same over masses per unit length.
